Job Description

The Assistant Professor in Nursing and Clinical Coordinator is a full time position at the School of Nursing at UVI which is a Historically Black, publicly supported land-grant institution. UVI is seeking faculty who will ensure that students meet high academic standards in a nurturing, and learner-centered environment in keeping with our HBCU status. Faculty should have expertise in clinical teaching and simulation and educational technology. Faculty should also demonstrate teaching and scholarship in their specialties. In addition, academic programs, support our land grant designation by integrating instruction with research and community service. Faculty must be able to work productively with students and colleagues of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Academic qualification and / or clinical and teaching experience in the following specialty areas are required: Fundamentals of Nursing and / or Adult Health/Medical Surgical. The ideal candidate will be clinically proficient, academic prepared as a nurse educator and would have experience teaching clinical nursing skills using simulation in the specialty areas previously listed. Previous experience in collegiate teaching, familiarity with ACEN accreditation processes, QSEN and the AACN essential competencies, OSHA standards, Assessment Technologies Inc (or other nursing education) platform are preferred. The ability to work with a diverse population and promote student success through academic advising are essential.
Team working and leadership skills are also essential in order to effectively participate in SON and UVI governance activities, program development and assure continued ACEN Accreditation. The ability to initiate and develop simulation experiences in teaching nursing and to teach across the nursing curriculum are highly desirable competencies for this position.

Required Qualifications

The minimum qualifications include BSN and MSN in Nursing with a five years of clinical practice and teaching experience in higher education in any of the following areas: Fundamentals of Nursing and / or Adult Health.
Specific Skills and Abilities:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Competencies in teaching methods and evaluation processes
- Comfort with health care and educational technology such as ATI
- Competencies in the development of simulation in nursing
- Organizational and time management skills
- Willingness to collaborate and work as a team member
- Commitment to the nursing profession
- Knowledge of ongoing quality monitoring and accreditation processes
- Knowledge of OSHA standards

Preferred Qualifications

Certification or formal training as a nurse educator and Certification in the development and implementation of simulation in nursing education are the preferred qualifications for this position.
